Estrella's body was found with gunshot wounds on a plot of land two days after she had gone missing.
CHILPANCINGO, Gro., (apro) .- Estrella Vázquez, a transgender woman, was found shot to death over the weekend in Azoyú, a municipality in the Costa Chica region of Guerrero.
With this, the number of crimes against LGBTI+ people in Guerrero has reached 53 in the last 10 years, according to collectives.
“They are killing us simply for belonging to the LGBT community,” they warned.
Yesterday, the murder of Estrella Vázquez Cruz, 36, from the community of Macahuite, was reported. She had disappeared on Thursday, March 26.
Her body was found on Saturday by residents about five kilometers from her community, on a plot of land near Azoyú, the municipal seat of the same name. Authorities found at least two spent shell casings from a long gun at the crime scene.
This Tuesday, the newly created Frente Estatal Guerrero Diverso, made up of 15 collectives, condemned the murder and demanded that authorities stop the attacks against the community.
Efraín de Jesús Arroyo, the president of Orgullo Guerrero, lamented that these crimes continue to be committed in Guerrero on the International Transgender Day of Visibility. He denounced the underreporting of crimes in the state because those crimes are not made public in municipalities in the Central, Northern, and Mountain regions and demanded justice from the authorities for these murders because investigations are opened, but there is no follow-up on attacks against the LGBTI population.
He stated that machismo, ideas, and ways of thinking that attack sexual minorities prevail in all social strata.
"They are killing us simply for belonging to the LGBTI community," the activist declared.
