Suicide
Arya died by suicide in her dormitory at TOBB University of Economics and Technology.
There are allegations that prior to her suicide she had been the victim of verbal and physical violence.
Following the suicide of Arya, a trans woman and student at TOBB University of Economics and Technology, in her dormitory, the "What Happened to Arya Initiative," established by LGBTQ+ student communities at the university, described the events following her suicide on Arya's birthday with the words, " We know that Arya's suicide was a result of transphobic policies. Therefore, we demand that an effective investigation be conducted and that it not be forgotten."
Arya, a transgender woman and student in the English Language and Literature Department at TOBB Economics and Technology University (TOBB ETÜ), died on April 13, 2026, in the TOBB ETÜ dormitories in Ankara. Following allegations that Arya was driven to suicide by verbal and physical violence, DEM Party Istanbul Member of Parliament Özgül Saki brought the matter to the attention of the Parliament.
