Daniela's body was found after she had been reported missing.
Authorities are investigating the murder of Daniela Rave Rico, a 23-year-old trans woman, whose body was found lifeless on the night of Thursday, May 7, about ten minutes from the urban center of the Santa Rita village in the municipality of Angelópolis to the southwest of Antioquia, after her family reported her missing.
The case is related to an incident that occurred hours earlier in the same location. According to the testimony of Jojan David Sosa Cardona - who was treated for a gunshot wound at 5:55 p.m. on Wednesday— he and Daniela, his partner, were in the area when an unknown man approached them, told them they couldn't be there, and, without saying another word, shot them. Sosa Cardona was taken to a medical center; hours later, authorities found Daniela's body. Daniela's family and friends have posted farewell messages on social media and are demanding that the case not go unpunished.
The murder comes amid a worrying increase in violence against transgender women in Colombia. It is the second murder of a transgender woman in Antioquia this week. The first was that of Mariana Ballesteros who was shot outside her home in the municipality of Bello.
