Luana died in hospital after being strangled by her boyfriend during an argument.
David Julio da Silva, 26, was arrested and is being held in preventative detention.
A 29-year-old transgender woman died after being strangled during a fight with her boyfriend in the Jundiapeba district of Mogi das Cruzes. According to the police report, the victim was identified as Luana Faria da Silva Oliveira, 29 years old.
The incident happened on Saturday (9) and she was taken to the Emergency Care Unit (UPA) in Jundiapeba, but she did not survive. The record indicates that the death occurred after a cardiorespiratory arrest caused by strangulation.
The suspect is David Julio da Silva, 26 years old. According to the Military Police, he was detained near the UPA (Emergency Care Unit) after being assaulted by members of the public when he went there to check on the victim's health.
According to the police report, David told officers that he had been in a relationship with Luana for nine months. He stated that the two had consumed alcoholic beverages and began to argue. According to the suspect, at some point, the victim passed out.
Luana's aunt told police that she heard the victim screaming "stop, stop, stop" during the argument. She stated that Luana's mother went to the scene and saw the suspect on top of the victim, attempting to strangle and suffocate her.
The witness also said that, after that, Luana was found unconscious. Family members tried to help until a car passed by and took the victim to the UPA (Emergency Care Unit).
The case was registered at the Mogi das Cruzes Central Police Station as femicide and domestic violence. David Julio da Silva was arrested on the spot and taken to the Mogi das Cruzes Public Jail, where he remains at the disposal of the Justice system.
