MEXICO CITY (apro) — The disappearance and death of 52-year-old Yulixa Consuelo Toloza is being investigated by Colombian authorities as a possible homicide related to a cosmetic procedure performed at an unlicensed establishment in southern Bogotá. The victim was reported missing on May 13, 2026, and her body was found on May 19 on a road in the municipality of Apulo, in the department of Cundinamarca, according to reports from the Attorney General's Office cited by local media.
On May 13, Yulixa Toloza went to an establishment identified as “Beauty Láser”, located in the Venecia neighborhood, in the town of Tunjuelito, where she was allegedly going to undergo a lipolysis or fat reduction procedure with sedation.
According to testimonies published in Colombian media, the procedure lasted several hours, and afterward, the woman showed signs of weakness, disorientation, and difficulty standing. Videos recorded by bystanders show the victim in a delicate state as she left the scene. Family members indicated that a friend was with her and left the premises to look for personal belongings; upon returning, the establishment was closed and there was no information about Yulixa's whereabouts.
The investigation included reviewing security camera footage from the area. The recordings show that on the night of May 13, two men took Yulixa from the building, apparently unconscious, and put her in a vehicle.
The body of Yulixa Toloza was found on May 19, 2026, beside a road between Apulo and Anapoima, in Cundinamarca. The Prosecutor's Office reported that the body had characteristics consistent with the victim, which was later confirmed through forensic procedures. The mayor of Bogotá announced that the case is being investigated as a homicide and called for the facts to be clarified and sanctions imposed on those responsible.
Health authorities in Bogotá indicated that the establishment where she was treated operated as a beauty salon and hairdressing center, but did not have permits to perform invasive medical procedures nor the conditions required for patient care.
The investigation led to the identification of several individuals allegedly involved in the procedure and the victim's transfer. Colombian media reported that some have been arrested, while others are being sought by authorities, including with the support of international mechanisms.
The case has reignited concerns in Colombia about the proliferation of clandestine clinics offering low-cost procedures without certified medical supervision. Authorities have reiterated that these types of services pose a risk to the health and lives of patients.
