Fülöp Laura (she/her) a hungarian trans woman disappeared from her apartment on 2026/06/09 and was later found having committed suicide.
She was misgendered and deadnamed multiple times by media outlets and police reports.
Her suicide is likely linked to the rising levels of transphobia and her not being accepted by most of her relatives.
Comments on articles about Laura's death triggered widespread condemnation of online harassment and sparked a broader public conversation in Hungary regarding cyberbullying, mental health awareness, and the treatment of gender-nonconforming individuals.

This 19-year-old kid got to the point where she felt that suicide was the only way out of her life. She could have been a student, a university student, in love, happy, she could have had her own family, children, a good job, adulthood and old age, but she decided it wasn't worth it. She could have realized that the problem wasn't with he, but with those who can't stand it when someone doesn't look exactly the way they think they "should".
I don't know her, and I don't know exactly what led to her death. But I know for sure that what surrounded the news about her disappearance, the comments that came under her poster, clearly shows what one of the darkest sides of her life must have been. It really shows what the environment is like where being different is not a simple gift, but a target for firing. Where it is enough for someone to stand out a little, to be more sensitive, more colorful, more soft-spoken, more strange, to not fit in with the crowd, to simply want to be themselves.
And what is your response to this? Laughter, name-calling, mockery, disgusting comments, “jokes”, humiliation, online lynching. The sneaky little jabs, which of course everyone calls a joke afterwards.
No, it’s not!
Being different doesn’t take anything away from you, doesn’t infringe on your rights, doesn’t threaten your life, doesn’t make your air, money, family, faith, or country any less. They simply want to live their lives in a way that’s tolerable to them, that’s fine, and you have absolutely nothing to do with it!
But it seems that in this country, identity is still a red flag, just as happiness is suspicious, the desire for freedom is irritating, acceptance is a sign of weakness, and those who have not received any of these would rather erase them from others.
To what level have we reached that the appearance of a young child is such a social prey? That people sit behind their phones and calmly write sentences that contribute to the extinction of a human life? That children, adolescents, young people can be kicked and humiliated until they see no other way out than taking their own lives? I ask you seriously: how do you look in the mirror? Has it never been difficult for you? Have you never had a moment when you just needed one normal sentence, a little understanding? To stop someone from kicking you in the back again? Or are you really as tough as three-day-old dog shit? Don't you have feelings, fears, shame, unresolved pain? Don't you have a soul? Well, I can answer that. No.
