Michelangelo and their mother Kety (pictured) were both shot dead by his father in a transphobic attack.

Piero Moriconi, 63 was arrested on murder charges.

Shortly before 3:00 PM on June 24 in Camaiore (Lucca), a 63-year-old man, Piero Moriconi, shot his wife, Kety Andreoni, 52, and his 24-year-old [child] [deadname], with a rifle. He was arrested shortly thereafter by the Carabinieri. The investigation is focusing on an act that culminated years of conflict. The father was unable to accept his [child]'s [sexual orientation and/or gender].

The young [persona] also posted a video in which [they] said that after [they] came out, his parent had commented: “Better dead than gay.”

Michelangelo (who had already changed their name) had only recently come out as trans and told friends they were considering a gender transition.

[Michelangelo] had long been out as gay. This sparked countless family arguments: he was on one side, his mother supported [them], [their] father opposed them. But recently, the 24-year-old seemed to have also been planning to begin a process of gender transition and had confided this to close friends. It seems [they] hadn't yet contacted medical facilities or specialists, but had begun to talk about the idea.

It's still unclear whether [they] confided this to [their] [birth] family, nor whether this decision may have further exacerbated the tense tension within the home. Several neighbors report constant screams, even in the middle of the night, coming from their apartment. Just a week ago, an ambulance was called, fearing the worst.

After Moriconi killed his wife and son he was unremorseful, saying "I got rid of them". He not only condemned himself, but extinguished two lives - one of whom was a loving mother and the other a young musical artist and rapper who regularly performed on stage.

In an interview Michelangelo had once said, quite simply, "Faccio musica perché è vita" ("I make music because it's life").
