Etchika's body was found with stab wounds in her apartment. She was a well known boxing promoter, and before that a nurse and then entrepeneur.
The boxing world is mourning the loss of a vibrant personality. Former German boxing promoter and author Etchika Pollex was found dead in her Vienna apartment on Thursday evening . Police in the Austrian capital are investigating a suspected murder. Her body showed multiple stab wounds.
Ulli Wegner (84) learned of the crime on Saturday morning in Gera (Thuringia). The legendary trainer knew Pollex from many boxing events and told the KURIER: "It's truly unbelievable – and very sad for me. She sponsored many athletes and was an easy-going person. That makes it all the more difficult for me to understand why she was murdered. It's simply hard to imagine."
As reported by krone.at, the 70-year-old is said to have lived with a young Chechen man, who is now being sought.
Among other things, Pollex made a name for herself as the promoter of former European champion Karo Murat (43). Born [deadname] Pollex in East Berlin in 1955, she fled to the West at the age of 23, before the fall of the Berlin Wall. She worked as a nurse and then built a life for herself as an entrepreneur. It wasn't until she was over 60 that she underwent gender reassignment surgery in Thailand and lived openly as a woman from then on.
Pollex wrote a book about her eventful life. She once wrote: "For decades I lived in the wrong body and took everything into consideration... except myself." She received much recognition for this step – including in the boxing world – and was deeply moved: "I would like to thank all the people who gave me so much support and courage. I bow to you for your tolerance and compassion."
