The discovery of the lifeless body of Steisy, a trans woman who was found partially burned in a wooded area of the municipality of Ciénaga, has generated consternation and rejection in the department of Magdalena.
The gruesome discovery was made by local residents, who alerted authorities to the presence of a body bearing clear signs of violence. National Police officers and officials from the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI) of the Attorney General's Office arrived at the scene to conduct a forensic investigation and gather evidence to help solve the crime.
Initial investigations revealed that the victim was known in the municipality as Steisy. While authorities are withholding some details of the investigation, it has been reported that the body showed signs of burns. Forensic specialists are conducting the necessary analyses to determine the precise cause of death and whether the victim was burned before or after being murdered.
The murder has caused outrage among LGBTIQ+ rights organizations, who asked the Prosecutor's Office to expedite the investigations with a differential approach and exhaust all lines of inquiry to identify and prosecute those responsible.
