Medellín, Colombia, July 13, 2026 – Violence continues to plague downtown Medellín. A transgender woman died after being stabbed in the neck during a fight near Plaza Botero, in the La Candelaria district, which continues to lead the homicide statistics in the capital of Antioquia in 2026.
According to information published by Q'HUBO, the incident occurred around 8:30 am on Wednesday, July 8, at the intersection of calle 53 (Avenida de Greiff) and Carrera 51 (Bolívar), next to Plaza Botero.
According to witnesses, the victim, a member of the LGBTQ+ community, walked several meters while clutching their neck after being attacked with a bladed weapon. They eventually collapsed in the street.
Upon noticing the situation, police officers arrived at the scene and immediately transported the woman to the clinic. However, she arrived without vital signs due to the severity of her injuries.
The victim, who was known in the area but has not yet been fully identified, was between 25 and 30 years old, had a slim build, a tan complexion, and long hair.
Medellín's Secretary of Security, Manuel Villa Mejía, reported that initial investigations suggest the homicide stemmed from a case of intolerance. The officer highlighted that the rapid reaction of the Police, combined with the monitoring carried out through the city's video surveillance cameras, made it possible to locate and capture the alleged aggressor.
The captured individual is a 26-year-old Venezuelan citizen, who was placed at the disposal of the Attorney General's Office, the entity that is carrying out the judicial process.
