Rayla died by suicide.
My family and I just lost our best friend, partner and wife.
Her name is Rayla Elle Ojeda-Wells, and she lost her battle with depression 7/18/2026.
She took her own life after a lifelong battle with depression, anxiety, and stress, in no small part from the constant nightmare of living as a trans-woman and a parent in Jacksonville, FL.
It was sudden, unexpected, and the immediate aftermath was a traumatizing, tragic event for all of us. 4 of her closest loved ones were home when it happened.
I would like to honor her memory and make her name known.
In 29 years on this planet she was a friend, a partner, a lover, a fighter, a mother, and a wife, and I will never forget the beautiful place she created in our lives, or the hole it made when she died.
I hope her passing serves as an important reminder that those who we are closest to are so unbelievably fragile and can quickly leave our lives if we do not hold onto them as tightly as we possibly can.
I hope in the wake of this loss, we learn to be that much kinder and more protective of those we love, so they never feel alone, or that they would not be missed.
