Shakira was a content creator and community activist. She died after being shot by armed assailants in a targeted attack.
A trans woman who worked as a content creator was murdered in a targeted attack in the state of Michoacán, an incident that is already being investigated by state authorities.
According to initial reports, the victim was attacked with gunfire by armed individuals who fled the scene after committing the attack.
Security personnel and emergency services arrived at the scene, where they could only confirm that the woman no longer had vital signs. The Attorney General's Office of the State of Michoacán opened an investigation to clarify the homicide and identify those responsible for the crime.
Following the murder, LGBT+ organizations and groups condemned the events and demanded an investigation with a gender perspective, as well as consideration of the victim's gender identity throughout the process. They also demanded that the case not go unpunished and called for greater action to stop the violence faced by the trans population in Mexico.
So far, authorities have not reported any arrests or revealed a possible motive for the attack, so the investigation continues.
