Ale was shot in front of a hostel by an assailant who fled on a motorbike. She died at the scene.
A 26-year-old transgender woman was shot and killed early this morning on the fourth block of calle Bolívar, near the Plaza de Armas in Ica. The victim, identified as [deadname] Montero and known as "La Escubidu", was attacked in front of a hostel.
The crime occurred between 1:40 and 2:15 a.m. on July 25, according to preliminary reports. Security cameras recorded the moment a helmeted individual got off or approached from a motorcycle and shot the victim, who tried to escape but fell between the sidewalk and the road.
Witnesses reported that the attackers were traveling on a red and black motorcycle. At the scene, forensic experts collected six .380 caliber shell casings and five unfired cartridges. At least three shots struck the victim, causing her death before she could receive medical attention.
Relatives indicated that the victim had received threats days earlier while working as a sex worker on calle Loreto, a situation that may have prompted her to move to the area around calles Chiclayo and Bolívar. This information will need to be corroborated during the police investigation.
The downtown area of Ica is a hub of nightlife, and according to reports gathered after the crime, threats, extortion, and disputes over territorial control had been reported. The Criminal Investigation Division is analyzing these possible connections, although no motive has been confirmed so far.
Representatives from the Public Prosecutor's Office and Forensic Medicine recovered the body and arranged for its transfer to the morgue in Ica. Police are reviewing security camera footage to identify the two attackers and determine if the murder was related to extortion, retaliation, or another motive.
