Remembering Our Dead

Karina Isabela Meliandi

Karina was murdered in unknown circumstances. She was an educator and trans pioneer of teacher training in her municipality.

August ended with a tragic toll that reveals the severity of patriarchal and institutional violence in our country. Three women were murdered: Gabriela Denisse Banach (47 years old), a long-time activist found dead in her apartment in Rosario; Jéssica Núñez (44 years old), a community leader stabbed to death in Córdoba; and Karina Isabella Meliandi (58 years old), an educator and pioneer of teacher training in Quilmes. This bloody list is further compounded by the physical attacks on community activists Anggie Pitala and Martina Duarte in their own neighborhoods.
